SYCAMORE 2017 - 2018

Welcome to Year 3’s Class Page

We are a class of 32 enthusiastic and happy children who have settled into junior life very well! Miss Silcox is our teacher and we are supported in class by Mrs Hilton.

Year 3 (Sycamore class) study a range of exciting topics throughout the year. During the Autumn term we learn about ‘Canals and Water of the World’. We visit the boat museum as part of this topic. In English we look at canal inspired stories in order to write our own and also learn all about whales and other sea creatures to write a report! In maths, we use our knowledge of problem solving to furnish a model canal boat and we even learn about measures through comparing the size of different sea creatures. Did you know that a blue whale can grow to over 30 metres? This is almost as wide as the entire back playground!

In the Spring term we learn all about France! We study Europe during this term and even compare two contrasting locations. ‘Where do you think you would rather live and why?’ is one of our key questions! During this topic we also look at French artists including Henri Rousseau and create some amazing imitations of his work. Our Science during this term is based on Animals and Humans and to bring this to life we visit Techniquest to observe a ‘Human Body’ show!

In the Summer term we go back in time to learn all about the Stone Age! We learn about various aspects of life in the Stone Age and we have a go at getting into role as ‘estate agents’ in order to advertise Stone Age houses. During Science this term we study ‘rocks’ and we apply our knowledge of permeability to design an ideal house for Stone Age people to live in and the ideal weapons for them to use.

Some of our targets this year are:

To become confident at recalling the 3, 4 and 8x tables.

To be able to reason in maths by explaining how we complete tasks.

To expand our use of vocabulary in our writing.

To ensure punctuation is consistently accurate.
